Another Canadian National Record Falls During Final Day of Paul Bergen Junior International

PORTLAND, Oregon, December 9. THE Paul Bergen Junior International came to a close with its second Canadian national record of the meet. The foursome of Gabrielle Soucisse, Chelsey Salli, Stephanie Horner, and Erica Morningstar chopped more than a second off Canada's standard with a time of 4:01.40.

The relay, with all four swimmers averaging less than 17 years old, surpassed the previous record of 4:02.99 set in 2002.

Morningstar started off the session right with a winning time of 1:56.97 to set a meet record in the 200 free, while Germany's Yannick Lebherz placed first in the men's race with a 1:48.15.

Allison Long of Canada hit the wall in 32.40 to win the women's 50 breast, while France's Giacomo Perez D'Ortona won for the men in 28.78.

Germany won again, this time as Lena Cellina Hiller touched in a meet-record 1:00.43 in the 100 fly, while Jonathan Blouin of Canada claimed the butterfly sweep with a time of 53.82 to win the 100.

Soucisse accomplished a sweep of her won as the Canadian clocked a meet record of 28.27 in the 50 back to complete the sweep of the backstroke events. Germany's Felix Wolf, meanwhile, took the men's 50 back in a meet-record 25.41.

Horner captured her fifth title of the meet, all in meet-record time, with a readout of 2:11.12 in the 200 IM, while Lebherz doubled on the day with a meet-record effort of 2:00.73 in the men's 200 IM.

Barbara Jardin of Canada won the women's 800 freestyle in 8:37.24, while Germany's Hinrik Muffels won in 15:23.45 in the men's 1500 freestyle.

In the final race of the evening, the German men continued to dominate the relays when they won and set a meet record in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:39.87.
