Anna Jahns, Talmadge Davis Win Distance Titles on Opening Night of Greensboro Sectionals

GREENSBORO – Gwinnett Aquatics’ Anna Jahns and Team Greenville’s Talmadge Davis won the women’s and men’s 1000 freestyle titles to kick off the first night of competition at the Greensboro Sectionals meet at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in North Carolina.

Jahns posted the quickest time of the day, and the only time under 10 minutes, in the women’s 1000 freestyle, stopping the clock at 9:59.25 for the win. Triangle Aquatics Club’s Ana Pozder dropped a whopping 18 seconds from her seed time to take second in 10:02.38, while SwimMAC Carolina’s Kristie Darmody tracked down third in 10:16.47.

In the men’s race, Davis dropped four seconds from his seed time to win by nearly 10 seconds with a 9:19.38. Raleigh Swimming Association’s Jamison Hauser also had a big drop, taking more than 10 seconds off his lifetime best to finish second in 9:28.78. Robert Wylie of Athens Bulldog Swim Club rounded out the top three in 9:31.32.

Timed finals of the 800 freestyle relays were also contested tonight. In the women’s race, SwimMAC Carolina’s Caitlin Casazza, Lauren Wallace, Catherine Maxey and Nora McCullagh topped the field with a 7:21.88, while Triangle Aquatics Club’s Ana Pozder, Julia Poole, Ashlyn Butkowski and Brooke Rubendall came in second with a 7:25.52. North Carolina Aquatic Club finished right behind in third, with Claire Deselm, Mia Morrell, Julie Hu and Madison Homovich touching in 7:25.92.

On the men’s side, William Macmillan, Jonathan Glavich, Michael Wohl and Noah Cairns gave North Carolina Aquatic Club the win in 6:38.14, comfortably in front of SwimMAC Carolina’s Graham Weaver, Connor Long, Jeffrey Murray and John Poff (6:44.22). New South Swimming’s James Cochell, James Hardy, Steven Spaeth and John Frith rounded out the top three in 7:00.74.
