Andreas Vazaios Wins Two at Golden Bear Invitational

There were a large variety of swimmers posting wins in day two of the Golden Bear Invitational including Andreas Vazaios, Aleksandra Gerasimenya, and Arianna Letrari.

Aleksandra Gerasimenya kicked off the final day of the Golden Bear Invitational with a new meet record of 54.50 in the women’s 100-meter free. Theodora Drakou took second with a 56.13, while Katarzyna Wik was third with a 56.58.

Marcin Opalski claimed the men’s 200-meter free with a final time of 1:54.40. Viktar Krasochka and Borna Jukic battled for second but Krasochka was able to turn on the heat to blast past Jukic in the final 50-meters. Krasochka finished second with a 1:55.08, while Jukic was a 1:55.19.

Sztandera Dominika posted a 32.06 to claim gold in the women’s 50-meter breaststroke. Lana Dragojevic was second with a 32.89, while Alina Zmushka finished close behind with a 32.90.

Panagiotis Samilidis turned in a 1:02.41 to win the men’s 100-meter breaststroke. Lachezar Shumkov took second with a 1:02.54, while Gabor Financsek rounded out the top three with a 1:02.60.

Zeljana Knezevic cranked out a 5:02.63 to take first in the women’s 400-meter IM. Maria Filopoulou turned in a 5:06.90 for second, while Ursa Bezan finished third with a 5:11.14.

The men’s 100-meter fly went to Andreas Vazaios who finished with a 53.73. Dinko Jukic was second with a final time of 54.78, while Mario Todorovic finished third with a 54.63.

Drakou took the women’s 100-meter back with a winning time of 1:03.10. Lucija Jurkovic-Perisa turned in a 1:04.58 for second, while third went to Ema Sarar who finished with a 1:04.89.

Vazaios quickly claimed a second win in the men’s 50-meter back touching the wall in 26.15 seconds. Balog Gabor went a 26.24 for second, and Sasa Gerbec took third with a 26.86.

Arianna Letrari dominated the women’s 200-meter fly with a final time of 2:19.42, finishing 6.54 seconds ahead of the competition. Julija Jesenovec claimed second with a time of 2:25.96, while Janina Banse was third with a 2:27.19.

The men’s 200-meter back went to Gabor who posted a 2:00.76 for the gold. Teo Kolonic finished second with a 2:07.05, while Ivan Gajsek took third with a 2:08.91.

Svitlana Khakhlova claimed the women’s 50-meter fly with a final time of 26.92. Gerasimenya was a close second, posting a time of 26.98, while Tess Grossman rounded out the top three with a 28.50.

Sven Arnar Saemundsson cruised to a first-place finish and a new meet record in the men’s 1500-meter free. Saemundsson posted a 16:12.56 to take home the win and replace Roko Copac’s 2014 meet record of 16:35.34. Stefan Brnard finished second with a time of 16:37.89, while Filip Husnjak was third with a 17:03.47.
