American Long Course Championships: Dax Hill, Madeline Locus Pick Up Second Wins

AUSTIN, Texas, August 3. DAX Hill and Madeline Locus each earned their second individual victories of the meet during the second night of swimming at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin.

Georgia Coastal's Patricia Forrester got things started with her third podium finish in three tries, as she recorded the top time in the women's 200m fly at 2:13.94. Aja Malone of SwimAtlanta grabbed second with a 2:15.24, while Forrester's teammate, Caty Hulsey, touched third in 2:16.33. Patrick Murphy, last night's runner up in the men's 100m fly, came out on top in the longer distance in 2:03.85. Aggie Swim Club's Konstantin Shmyga finished about half a second behind in 2:04.29, with SwimAtlanta's Powell Brooks right on his heels (2:04.32).

Athens Bulldog's Madeline Locus, already victorious in the women's 100m fly last night, picked up a second win with a convincing win in the 50m free. She touched more than four tenths in front of Longhorn's Bethany Adams (26.35) with a time of 25.92. Kelsey Amundsen, also of Longhorn, came in third with a 26.41. Meanwhile, Dax Hill led a Longhorn sweep in the men's 50m free, breaking 23 seconds for a second time with a 22.82. Ben Anderson (23.26) and Kerrington Hill (23.54) rounded out the top three.

In the women's 200m breast, Lakeside's Peyton Greenberg shaved three seconds off her preliminary time to win in 2:35.51. Fifth-place qualifier Julianne Kurke of SwimAtlanta did the same, finishing second in 2:36.19. Kurke won the 100m breast last night. Olivia Boggs of SwimAtlanta claimed third in 2:36.94. Nashville Aquatic Club's Alex Goss brought home the men's 200m breast title in 2:20.83, more than a second ahead of SwimAtlanta's Geoffrey Carter (2:21.99). Daniel Chang of Barracuda Swim Club picked up third in 2:22.78.

Aggie Swim Club's Tess Simpson held on for victory in the women's 100m back, touching out Nitro's Quinn Carrozza, 1:02.41 to 1:02.77. Lakeside's Asia Seidt finished third in 1:04.49. Simpson's teammate at Aggie Swim Club, Nikita Denisyako, brought home the men's title in 57.02, denying Patrick Murphy his second win of the night as he touched second in 57.45. SwimAtlanta posted another podium finish with Thomas Nguyen in third (57.68).

Leah Stevens of Lakeside won her second event of the meet, claiming the 400m free by a second over Aggie Swim Club's Maureen McLaine, 4:12.78 to 4:13.78. North Coast Aquatics' Andrea Basaraba finished a distant third in 4:20.68. The fastest time in the men's race actually came from the B-final, as Metroplex Aquatics' Sam Lewis was the only swimmer to break the 4-minute mark with a 3:59.63. Lakeside's Jake Schultz won the A-final in 4:00.52, just ahead of Longhorn's Reid Walker (4:00.83). Cody Reul of SwimAtlanta took third in 4:01.85.
