Amanda Richey Claims Distance Victory in Day One of Mt. Hood Sectionals

This afternoon marked the opening day of the 2015 Speedo Western Section Championship at the Mt. Hood Community College Aquatic Center in Gresham, Oregon.

In the meet’s first event, the women’s 800 meter freestyle, Amanda Richey touched the wall with a time of 8:54.11 for first. It was a tight race, with Kira Webster only approximately four tenths behind, claiming second place with a time of 8:54.52. Matti Harrison was less than two tenths behind Webster, clocking in with a time of 8:54.68 to grab third.

Jacob Ores sailed smoothly to capture first in the men’s 800 meter freestyle with a time of 8:06.41. Aaron Apel posted a time of 8:18.55 to claim second, with Liam Gately swimming to third with a time of 8:21.60.

In the women’s 800 meter freestyle relay, the Scottsdale Aquatic Club’s Jocelyn Wang (2:08.52), Victoria Toris (2:06.44), Shae Nicolaisen (2:05.38), and Taylor Ruck (2:05.58) raced to victory in a time of 8:25.92. Second place went to the University of Denver Hilltoppers with a time of 8:29.33 while the Phoenix Swim Club took third with a time of 8:34.97.

On the men’s side, the relay was won by the Phoenix Swim Club swimmers Ryan McCoy (1:52.48), Angus Hannan (1:54.64), Jared Norton (1:58.38), and Luke Williams (1:53.29) with a finishing time of 7:38.79. The University of Denver Hilltoppers snagged second once again with a time of 7:41.46 and the Tuscon Ford Dealers Aquatics came in third with a time of 7:53.13.
