Allison Schmitt held on to her top seed in the women’s 200-meter free at USA Nationals this morning. Schmitt finished ahead of Hali Flickinger, who swam a full slate of events last night. Flickinger clocked a 1:58.54 and had a stronger second half than Schmitt.

Schmitt:     27.70/29.43/30.79/30.20

Flickinger: 28.47/29.78/30.23/30.06

Yesterday, Schmitt was the top seed entering finals in the 400-meter free, but dropped all the way to fifth. A slower second half marred her race last night, and it could provide Flickinger a chance to move up a spot tonight.

Sarah Henry (1:59.42) and Katie Drabot (1:59.47) took third and fourth, but are only separated by a thin margin. Madisyn Cox, who silvered in last night’s 200 IM, claimed fifth with a 1:59.90. Haley Lips (2:00.08), Hannah Cox (2:00.43), and Alexa Davis (2:00.51) rounded out the top eight.

The consolation final will feature Melanie Klaren (2:00.64), Courtney Harnish (2:00.71), Megan Moroney (2:00.71), Megan Romano (2:00.96), Jessica Hespeler (2:01.10), Lindsay Vrooman (2:01.13), Yawen Hou (2:01.17), and Alex Norris (2:01.17).
