Aliah Robertson Among Record Breakers at Michigan Upper Peninsula Championships

At this weekend’s Michigan High School Upper Peninsula High School state championships Marquette was the runner up on both sides, scoring 273 girls points and 232 boys points. Gladstone scored 303 points to win the girls meet while Houghton totaled 242 points to win the boys meet.

Girls

Gladstone got off to a quick start, setting the UP record in 1:54.92 with the team of Claire TembreullSydney HeriouxAbby Rooleau, and Taylor McFarlane. The team’s 200 freestyle relay went a 1:44.86 for another victory.

Houghton’s Samantha Olson won the 200 freestyle in 2:05.80.

Aliah Robertson, a freshman at Sault Area, set another UP record, as the first swimmer to ever crack a minute in the 100 fly, with her 59.27. She set another record in the 100 breaststroke with her 1:06.31.

Marquette freshman Erin Vanderschaaf won the 200 IM in 2:17.20 and the 500 free in 5:20.70. Her teammate Mollie Kilpela won the 100 free in 57.50. Another Marquette freshman, Lexi LaCombe won the 100 backstroke in 1:03.98.

Marquette won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:53.45.

Boys

Marquette’s Ryan GloverJosh NykanenMatt Brauer, and Jack Caron won the 200 medley relay in 1:44.24. Brauer topped the 200 freestyle in 1:58.67. Glover, Robert Bell, Caron, and Nykanen won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:35.65. Glover swam a 57.70 to win the 100 backstroke.

In 2:07.21 Flivvers’ Caleb Plumley won the 200 IM. The senior also won the 100 breaststroke with a 1:02.02. Sault Area’s Leevi Olson won the 50 freestyle by over a second with his 22.20. He went a 48.55 in the 100 freestyle to set a new UP record. His teammate Andrew Innerebner won the 100 butterfly in 56.83 and the 500 freestyle in a UP record of 4:55.13.

Houghton’s Kevin BeaghanSeth HelmanLeo Wheeler, and Colton Haataja swam a 3:39.95 to win the 400 freestyle relay.
