Alberto Montini Obliterates Four FINA Masters World Records (With Video Footage)

PHOENIX, Arizona, January 5. JUST before the turn of the calendar to 2009, Italy's Alberto Montini swam faster than four FINA Masters world records at three separate short course meters competitions.

First, Montini, 40, obliterated the 50 breaststroke record for the 40-44 age group on Oct. 26 with a 28.86. That time was faster than the record of 29.49 held by Germany's Wolfgang Jarmer. (Video of swim below.)

One month later, Montini attacked the two-week old world mark in the 100 breast with a fascinating 1:02.42. That time erased Roque Santos' 1:03.54 from a meet in mid-November.

Montini showed up to another meet on Dec. 20 and walked away with two swims under world record time. His 100 IM time of 58.28 took down Santos' two-week-old record of 58.94, and the 2:15.95 he swam in the 200 breast was well under his own world record of 2:18.16. (Video of 100 IM swim below.)
