Aggie Swimmers Keep Winning Big 12 Awards

DALLAS, Tex, February 6. TEXAS A&M's Adam Morgan and Danielle Townsend were named the Big 12 Men's Diver and Women's Swimmer of the Month for January, respectively, by the Big 12 Conference on Wednesday.

Senior diver Adam Morgan won his first-ever Big 12 Diver of the Month Award on his final attempt. Morgan joins a long list of A&M divers, which include All-Americans Mark Naftanel, Jesse Even and current teammate Christian Picard, to have won men's diver of the month honors.

Morgan won six of 10 competitions in the past three weeks to earn the honor. Morgan set a lifetime-best score of 324.15 on the one-meter springboard against Louisiana-Monore on Jan. 24. That mark ranks fourth all-time at A&M. Morgan also achieved a perfect 5-0 record on the one-meter during the month of January which included a pair of wins against No. 5 Florida.

Junior freestyle sprinter Danielle Townsend continued an A&M stranglehold on the women's swimming honor by winning the award in back-to-back months. The Aggies have won all four Big 12 Women's Swimmer of the Month awards this season. Freshman Rebecca Sturdy won the award in October and November.

Townsend earned five individual first-place finishes and spearheaded four relay teams to victory over the past month. The Bakersfield, Calif., native also managed to win the 100 and 200-yard freestyles against then-No. 5 Texas in Austin. Townsend swept the 50 and 100-yard freestyles against LSU in Baton Rouge on Jan. 23 and even grabbed a win in a non-specialty event, the 100-yard breaststroke, against Louisiana-Monroe and Tulane a day later.
