African Records Fall at Western Province Championships

CAPE TOWN, South Africa, December 13. ACCORDING to reporting by Swimming South Africa, three African records fell during the Western Province Long Course Championships held in Cape Town.

Sebastian Russouw became the first African to surpass the 2:00 mark in the 200 fly when he clocked a time of 1:59.84. That performance clipped the previous record of 2:00.41 set by George du Rand earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Wendy Trott set standards in the 400 and 1500 freestyle events – both events in which she already held the record. First, she clocked a 4:11.84 in the 400 free to drop her 4:12.87. She also shattered her 1500 free standard of 16:41.36 with a top time of 16:31.09.
