Adam Pierce Named Diver of the Week for the Fifth Time

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; Jan. 17, 2006 – Penn State’s Adam Pierce (Conroe, Texas) was named Big Ten Diver of the Week today for the fifth time this season after his strong performance against St. Bonaventure, where he took first place in the 1-meter diving event.

The honor comes after the Lion men defeated the men’s swimming and diving team 142-89. The Lion women were victorious as well, 136-92.

The senior’s qualifying marks came in his first place finish in the 1-meter
diving event with a score of 395.18. He went on to score 376.95 points in the 3-meter diving competition, though it was an exhibition event.

During the 2004-2005 season Pierce excelled, winning 12th and 9th place at the Big Ten Championships in the 1- and 3-meter events, respectively. Pierce also won 13th and 14th place at the NCAA Diving Zone Championships in the 1- and 3-meter events, respectively.

The Penn State men’s and women’s swimming and diving team travel to New
Brunswick, N.J. Jan. 21 to take on Rutgers, starting at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
