61-Meet Win Streak Snapped at Western Illinois

MACOMB, Illinois, October 12. WESTERN Illinois halted the dual-meet win streak of the Saint Louis women's swimming and diving team at 61 with a narrow 122-121 victory on Friday evening in Macomb, Ill. Michael Dahle led the Billiken men's squad with three first-place finishes, including two times that ranked in SLU's top 10 all-time, en route to a 147-92 win over the Bulldogs.

The Billiken women won just five individual events to the Westerwinds' eight overall victories, suffering their first dual-meet loss since the 2003-04 campaign.

Elena Ramirez led the SLU women with first-place finishes in the 200 IM (2:14.58) and 200 fly (2:10.29). Saint Louis swept the diving events with Anna Larson winning on the three-meter board (250.50) and Emily Walter capturing first on the one-meter (219.30). Sarah Bennet was the only other winner on the women's side as she took home the win in the 500 free (5:21.11).

Dahle helped the men's team get off to a good start with a victory in the first individual event, the 1000 free. His time of 9:55.07 ranks fifth on SLU's all-time list. He went on to win the 200 fly in 2:00.29 and the 500 free in 4:49.94. Dahle's 500 free performance is the ninth-best in school history.

SLU won eight individual events and both relays on the men's side. Brad Byars was the only other male swimmer with multiple first-place finishes for the Bills. He won the 50 (21.92) and 100 (48.01) free events.

Saint Louis dives right back into the pool tomorrow at the Show-Me Showdown in Columbia, Mo.
