47 Years Later Junior Swimmer Still Showcases Young and Emerging Athletes

PHOENIX, Arizona, October 13. MOST people do not know that there is a section in each issue of Swimming World Magazine devoted to young swimmers. It is called the Junior Swimmer section.

Matter of fact, Swimming World Magazine's originally began as a pair of publications created by Peter Daland and Robert J. H. Kiphuth. Daland began Junior Swimmer in the summer of 1952 before transferring the magazine to Albert Schoenfeld in 1960. Meanwhile, Kiphuth had been publishing Swimming World since the early 50s before the two publications combined to be called Junior Swimmer-Swimming World in 1961. See the images to the right for some of that evolution.

Today, Swimming World Magazine still showcases the successes of young swimmers around the country in the Junior Swimmer section. This month you can read about young swimmers competing in California, Maryland, Massachusetts, Ohio, New York, Oregon and Texas. Different states are featured each month. Somewhere in the lines are the names of a future Olympians.

Also included in this month edition are recaps from the SPEEDO Championship Series Sectionals hosted by Auburn Aquatics, Clovis Swim Club, Fort Lauderdale Aquatics, University of Minnesota, Mt. Hood Swim Team, Chesapeake Swim Club, Dayton Raiders and the Alamo Area Aquatic Association.
