Women 800 Free (Fastest Seeded Heat)

World junior record holder Li Bingjie took the women’s 800 freestyle tonight with a solid 8:28.98 while veteran Kristen Kobrich took silver with an 8:35.65. The bronze was awarded to N.C. State’s Hannah Moore who swam an 8:36.87. Taking fourth and fifth were Mission Viejo’s Ashley Neidigh and N.C. State’s Tamila Holub while Sophie Cattermole swam an 8:47.51 to take sixth. Summer Finke, who actually swam in the preliminary heats, put together an 8:48.61 for seventh while Aggie distance swimmer Joy Field posted an 8:52.06 to round out the top eight.

Men 800 Free (Fastest Seeded Heat)

Auburn graduate Zane Grothe took the men’s 800 freestyle tonight with a solid in-season time of 7:56.69 while N.C. State’s Anton Ipsen took second with a 7:57.64. Clark Smith faded to third with his 8:00.70 while China’s Qiu Ziao and Louisville’s Marcelo Acosta took fourth and fifth. In sixth was Japan’s Kohei Yamamoto while Michael Brinegar and Shogo Takeda rounded out the filed by placing seventh and eighth.

Women 100 Back Finals

Riptide’s Regan Smith broke Kirsty Coventry‘s pool record of 59.42 by swimming a 59.38, which solidified Smith as the only swimmer to break the 1:00 barrier. Taylor Ruck earned silver in 1:00.18 while the bronze was given to Georgia’s Olivia Smoliga with her 1:00.23. Fourth and fifth place were awarded to Peng Xuwei and Isabel Stadden while Jade Hannah and Kayla Sanchez earned sixth and seventh. Rounding out the field in eighth was Lisa Bratton in 1:01.30.

Men 100 Back Finals

Matt Grevers continued his strong comeback by winning the men’s 100 backstroke in a quick 53.73, just ahead of the 53.93 posted by Ryan Murphy. The bronze was awarded to Justin Ress in 54.43. Taking fourth and fifth place was Cal’s Jacob Pebley and Great Britain’s Nicholas Pyle. In sixth and seventh was Luke Greenbank and Taylor Dale while taking eighth was another Great Britain up and comer Daniel Cross.

Women 200 Fly Finals

Alys Thomas out of Wales won the 200 butterfly in the only sub-2:10 time of 2:09.50 while Zhang Yufei took the silver in 2:10.22. The bronze was awarded to Athens Bulldog Hali Flickinger with her 2:10.37. Winner of the 100 backstroke earlier in the session, Regan Smith, took fourth in 2:11.66 while Ciara Schlosshan out of Great Britain took fifth with a 2:11.82. Wales national-teamer Harriet Jones placed sixth while Dakota Luther and Sarah Gibson rounded out the A final in seventh and eighth.

Men 200 Fly Finals

Athens Bulldog Chase Kalisz swam swift 1:55.63 to take the win in the 200 butterfly. Taking silver was Japan’s Masayu Umemoto in 1:57.64 while Jack Conger faded to third in 1:58.09. Longhorn freshman Sam Pomajevich was the last of the sub-2:00 club in 1:59.77 while Louisville’s Nicholas Albiero and Zach Harting took fifth and sixth. Touching seventh and eighth was Jacob Peters and Mack Darragh.

Women 100 Breast Finals

After winning the 200 breaststroke last night NYAC’s Katie Meili swam to another victory in the 100 breaststroke with her 1:06.49 while Rachel Nicol swam a 1:07.70 for the silver while the bronze was awarded to Tennessee’s Molly Hannis in 1:07.93. Taking fourth and fifth was Melanie Margalis and Breeja Larson while Faith Knelson and Jorie Caneta took sixth and seventh. Rounding out the field was Anna Belousova in 1:10.00.

Men 100 Breast Finals

China’s Yan Zibei was the only swimmer to dip under the 1:00 barrier by posting a 59.84. The silver was awarded to Andrew Wilson with his 1:00.90 while Athens Bulldog Nic Fink went 1:01.40 for third. Taking fourth and fifth was Joshua Prenot and Carlos Claverie while national junior teamers Michael Andrew and Reece Whitley took sixth and seventh. Rounding out the A final with a 1:02.48 was West Swim Club’s Nic Zito.

Women 100 Free Finals

Taylor Ruck continued her star-studded weekend by winning the 100 freestyle in a 53.51, though she was followed closely by the Mission Viejo swimmer on a comeback, Margo Geer, who swam a 53.74 for the silver. Geer posted a personal best of 53.76 in this morning’s prelims, which set her up for another best time this evening. Geer’s coach Coley Stickels told SwimmingWorld Geer was planning on shaving for the meet, which could be a contributing factor to her impressive weekend so far.

Kayla Sanchez took fourth in the race with a 54.71 while Wolfpack Elite’s Arianna Vanderpool Wallace took fifth in a time of 54.75.

Men 100 Free Finals

Cal’s Nathan Adrian cruised to a 48.75 to take the win while Wolfpack Elite’s Ryan Held posted a 49.35 to take second. The third place position was awarded to Daniel Krueger who swam a 49.77. Rounding out the top eight was Cal’s Ryan Murphy in 51.08.

Women 200 IM Finals

Texas A&M’s Sydney Pickrem continued her impressive swimming trend this weekend as she snapped the pool record in the 200 IM by putting together a 2:09.92, ahead of Saint Petersburg’s Melanie Margalis who swam a 2:10.66. Third place was awarded to Longhorn Aquatic’s Madisyn Cox in a time of 2:10.98. Rounding out the field in eighth was Aggie Bethany Galat in 2:17.32.

Men 200 IM Finals

Athens Bulldog Chase Kalisz blew away the rest of the A final of the 200 IM by posting 1:57.50 ahead of Will Licon who swam a 2:01.08. Carson Foster out of Mason Manta Rays swam a 2:01.46 for third place. Rounding out the top eight was Louisville’s Carlos Claverie in 2:05.38.
