Men’s 50 fly

Piero Codia topped the sprint fly in a time that moved him to seventh in the world at the 2016 Italian Nationals.

Codia posted a 23.56 for the win, moving ahead of Cameron McEvoy’s 23.57 from Australia.

Matteo Rivolta finished second in 23.82 with Daniele D’Angelo taking third in 23.96.

Andrea Vergani (24.08), Luca Dotto (24.12), Andrea Farru (24.25), Leonardo Vimercati (24.50) and Simone Geni (24.56) rounded out the top eight.

Women’s 400 IM

Luisa Trombetti (4:38.54) and Sara Franceschi (4:40.03) each cleared the FINA A cut of 4:43.46 in the women’s 400-meter IM today to set themselves up for potential Olympic selection.

Carlotta Toni (4:41.27), Ilaria Cusinato (4:42.18), Alessia Polieri (4:44.36), Anna Pirovano (4:48.34), Susanna Negri (4:54.16) and Alessia Capitanio (4:54.79) also competed in the finale.

Men’s 400 free

Gabriele Detti jumped to third in the world in the men’s 400-meter free at the 2016 Italian Nationals.

Detti clocked a winning time of 3:43.97, behind only Mack Horton (3:41.65) and James Guy (3:43.84) this year.  That swim easily cleared the FINA A cut of 3:50.40 in the process.

Mitch D’Arrigo, meanwhile, finished second in 3:50.82 just outside of the FINA A cut.

Domenico Acerenza (3:51.20), Damiano Lestingi (3:51.62), Alex Di Giorgio (3:52.07), Nicolangelo Di Fabio (3:52.56), Samuel Pizzetti (2:54.03) and Matteo Ciampi (3:54.23) also performed in the finale.

Carlotta Zofkova finished second in 2:11.97 with Letizia Paruscio placing third in 2:14.39.
