Women’s 200 fly

Ella Eastin claimed the first victory at the 2015 USA Swimming Summer Junior Nationals in the 200 butterfly. Longhorn Aquatics’ Victoria Edwards was first at the 100, but Eastin took the lead after the 100 to finish in 2:10.12, about a second off Jasmin Tosky’s meet record from 2010. This was Eastin’s fastest time so far this season. Edwards took the silver, while Emma Seiberlich got the bronze.

15-year-old Carley Lowe took the B final in 2:14.83, while Nancy Hu and Alena Kraus tied to win the C final with a time of 2:14.13.

Men’s 200 fly

Mark Jurek took the 200 fly in 1:58.81 out-swimming Sam Pomajevich (1:59.34) and Max Miranda (1:59.40) who took second and third, respectively. None of the swimmers were under 2:00 in prelims, but the A final saw five men break that barrier. Maxime Rooney (1:59.57), Cole Buese (1:59.67), Jack Levant (2:00.38), Will Macmillan (2:00.97) and Alarli Levreault-Lopez (2:01.50) rounded out the heat.

The B final was a close race down to the finish, but Sean Lee got the victory with a time of 2:00.96. Joe Molinari claimed the C final of the event with a 2:01.68 getting an Olympic Trials cut.

Women’s 100 breast

Miranda Tucker won the women’s 100 breaststroke by a wide margin with a time of 1:08.32. She just missed the meet record by .03, but this lowers her personal best time which was 1:09.11 before today. She was followed by Allie Raab (1:09.41) for second and Alicia Harrison (1:10.26) for third. Grace Zhao, Marie-Claire Schillinger, Julia Poole and Rachel Ramey were all under the Olympic Trials standard in the A final.

13-year-old Alex Walsh won the B final in 1:10.82 achieving an Olympic Trials cut. Morganne McKennan of Quicksilver Swim won the C final in 1:11.42.

Men’s 100 breast

Devon Nowicki of Aqua Swim Club won the 100 breast in 1:02.29. He was .33 off his best time, but this was enough to get the win. Not far behind was Ethan Browne finishing in 1:02.40. Matt Salerno placed third out of lane 1 with a time of 1:03.02. Ian Finnerty (1:03.05), Jeremy Babinet (1:03.22), Rio Kurihara (1:03.50), Thomas Brewer (1:03.53) and Hank Poppe (1:04.21) all made the race a close battle through the finish as half a second separated third through seventh place.

Jordan O’Brien of Missouri won the B final in 1:03.73. He was followed by Judd Howard of Aquazot Swim Club in 1:03.79. All eight swimmers went a 1:04 in the C final of this event, but Daniel Chang of Barracuda Swimming got to the wall first in 1:04.08.

Women’s 800 free

Joy Field of Magnolia Aquatics lead the race from start to finish, lowering her best time from 8:47.19 to 8:41.53. Field was out-split in the last 200 by Taylor Ruck, but Ruck did not have enough room to close in for the victory. Ruck finished in 8:43.75, followed by Melissa Pish in 8:45.47. Kahra Williams won the silver in the event swimming a 8:42.65 in the afternoon heats. This is best time and Olympic Trials cut for Williams, which pushed Ruck and Pish back to third and fourth.

Many swimmers from the afternoon heats also finished in the top 8. Kendall Brent (8:48.12), Allie Wooden (8:49.69), Amanda Nunan (8:49.83) and Kaitlynn Sims (8:50.24) rounded out the top finishers.

Men’s 1500 free

Taylor Abbott lead the men’s 1500 for the entire race, holding splits under meet record pace until about halfway through the event. While he managed to hold off Fast Swim Team’s Simon Lamar, it was not enough to beat Aaron Apel of Scottsdale Aquatics who swam a 15:27.35 in the afternoon heats. 2016 Olympian Jordan Wilimovsky’s meet record of 15:23.01 still stands for another year.

The top 11 finishers in this event all clocked Olympic Trials cuts. George Horvath (15:39.18), Drew Clark (15:41.08), Danny Erlenmeyer (15:41.45), T.C. Smith (15:42.07) and Noah Cairns (15:45.04) placed fourth through eighth.
