2012 London Olympics: Police Arrest Twitter User After Harassment of Diver Tom Daley

LONDON, England, July 31. BRITISH police have arrested a teenage Twitter user after posting disturbing harassing messages to diver Tom Daley on the Internet service according to various news outlets including the BBC. The 17-year-old had posted messages telling Daley he'd let his father down after missing the podium in the men's 10-meter synchronized event. Daley's father, Rob, passed away in May 2011 from brain cancer.

According to the BBC:

Daley responded to the tweet by posting: “After giving it my all…you get idiot's sending me this…”

The user, Rileyy69, later posted a tweet apologising for the comment before the Twitter account was suspended.

He said: “I'm sorry mate i just wanted you to win cause its the olympics I'm just annoyed we didn't win I'm sorry tom accept my apology.”

He later added: “please i don't want to be hated I'm just sorry you didn't win i was rooting for you pal to do britain all proud just so upset.”
