2009 FINA Women’s Water Polo World League Super Final Starts This Week

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, June 8. THE Super Final of the 2009 FINA Women's Water Polo World League will take place in Kirishi (RUS) from June 9-14, with the presence of the national teams of Australia, Canada, China, Greece, Italy, Russia, Spain and USA. These eight squads qualified for the decisive stage of the competition after the Preliminary Round of this year's World League, contested between 14 teams of the five continents from May 8-31, 2009.

The team of USA is certainly the favourite to win this Super Final, having triumphed in four out of five times since the creation of this competition in 2004 (the only non-American winner was Greece, in 2005). The USA were also silver medallists of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing (CHN). The "outsider" of this Super Final could be the team of China, thus demonstrating the rapid evolution of its women's water polo level over the last years.
