UC San Diego On Top After Day 2 of PCSCs

Tonight was the day two finals of the Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference Championships at East Los Angeles College.

In the women’s 500 freestyle UC San Diego’s Haley Hamza, won the event with a 4:59.32. APU’s Rosalee Mira Sanata Ana finished right behind Hamza with a 4:59.35 for second place. Stephanie Sin of UC Sand Diego came in at a 5:00.37 for the bronze.

UC San Diego’s Michael Cohn won the men’s 500 freestyle with a 4:27.46. His teammate Chandler Pourvahidi touched the wall for the silver with a 4:29.73. Fresno Pacific’s Wesley Coles finished in third place with a 4:32.28.

Fresno Pacific’s Daria Belova won the women’s 200 IM in the time of 2:02.48. UC San Diego’s Maddy Huttner came in second place with a 2:03.49 and Hannah Calton of Loyola Marymount came in third with the time of 2:04.18.

In the men’s 200 IM UC San Diego had took the gold and silver. Garrett Tse won the event in a 1:49.60. His teammate CJ Pais went a 1:51.49 for second and Fresno Pacific’s Maksim Shcherbakov came in third (1:52.82).

UC San Diego swept the podium in the women’s 50 freestyle. Colleen Daley won the event with a 23.05. Natalie Tang went a 23.36 for second place and Angie Phetbenjakul got third touching the wall with a 23.48.

Arthur Heale of UC San Diego won the men’s 50 freestyle with a 20.30. John Dowd of Concordia University-Irvine finished in a 20.44 for second place and Fresno Pacific’s Luka Barisic came in third going a 20.44.

UC San Diego men and women both won the 200 freestyle relays tonight. The women’s team of Tang (23.37), Phetbenjakul (23.43), Haley Murphy (23.10) and Daley (22.50) won in a 1:32.40. Fresno Pacific’s team of Samantha Woo (23.98), Daria Belova (23.34), Madison McGinnis (24.05) and Olivia Hynes (23.73) came in second (1:35.10). Loyola Marymount came in third (1:35.61) with Kristen Brennand (24.16), Marley Abbott (23.96), Isabel Willis (24.06) and Kristen Clarno (23.43).

The UC San Diego men’s 400 freestyle team won in a 1:22.36 with the team of Heale (20.56), Kevin Wylder (20.62), Michael Leung (20.54) and Julian Jacobs (20.64). Fresno Pacific came in second (1:23.74) with the squad of Barisic (20.54), Austin Hussain (20.28), Shcherbakov (21.63) and Blake Hollis (21.29). Concordia Irvine came in third (1:23.89) with Dowd (20.74), Dylan Alba (19.97), Rhett Turvey (21.28) and Gianluca Bandiera (21.90).
