#12 ASU Water Polo Falls at #2 Stanford, 15-6

PALO ALTO, Calif.April 9. THE No. 12 Arizona State University water polo team closed its slate of regular season road contests in tough fashion Sunday as the No. 2 Stanford Cardinal jumped out to an early lead and built on it to hand the Sun Devils a 15-6 loss in MPSF competition at the Avery Aquatic Center in Palo Alto, Calif. The loss dropped ASU to 12-11 overall on the season and 4-7 in the MPSF while SU improved to 19-3 and 9-1 in the league.

The Sun Devils fell into an early hole following the first quarter of play as the hosts posted six goals to ASU’s two. In the second quarter, the Sun Devils could not find the back of the cage while the Cardinal added another six for a commanding 12-2 lead at halftime. The Sun Devils countered in the third as they outscored their hosts, 4-2, to bring the score to 14-6 with SU adding the final goal of the game in the fourth for the final tally of 15-6.

Rowie Webster and Katy Lawlor each scored twice on the day to pace the offense while Kim Buck and Addison Doud contributed one score each. In the cage, Caylinn Wallace recorded 11 saves.

Following a week off from competition, the Sun Devils will return to their home venue to close out the regular season as they are set to play host to No. 7 San Diego State at noon on Saturday, April 22. The contest will not only be the team’s Gold Game, but it also will serve as Senior Day.
