Redding’s Winn Aung, 10, Breaks Kris Humphries’ U.S. Age Group Swimming Mark

REDDING, California, May 20. YESTERDAY, at a meet hosted by his home club the Redding Swim Team, 10-year-old Winn Aung knocked a second off an 18-year-old U.S. National Age Group record previously held by NBA basketball player Kris Humphries.

Aung clocked a time of 1:01.21 to become the fastest 10 year old in U.S. history in the boys 10-and-under 100-meter freestyle event. That swim whacked more than a second off Humphries' 1995 mark of 1:02.39. Humphries still remains in possession of the 50-meter free record in the 10-and-under division with a 27.71 also from 1995.

Humphries is currently playing for the Brooklyn Nets in the National Basketball Association, and was one of the top 10 year olds in the sport of swimming back in the 90s. He gave up the sport when he turned 12 as he continued to develop into an elite-level basketball player.

Aung, meanwhile, had an amazing weekend. During the meet, he took down seven Sierra Nevada LSC records. Winn set records in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, 400 free, 50 fly, 100 fly and 200 IM. His 50-meter freestyle swim of 27.75 just missed wiping Humphries off the meter national age group rankings altogether.

Winn is a talented, hardworking athlete with a competitive nature. He has supportive parents who take him and his siblings to multiple training sessions and travel all over for competitions. Winn is part of a large, established swim team with many positive role models among the coaches and his teammates. With Winn's abilities, attitude, and the supportive environment he enjoys, his future looks very bright indeed.”
