Swimming World.TV Presents NCSA Junior National Championships

PHOENIX, Arizona, March 11. THE junior National Championships, hosted by the National Club Swimming Association (NCSA), begins Tuesday and runs through March 16 at the Orlando YMCA Aquatic Center in Orlando, Fla. This annual meet continually draws large numbers of top 18-and-under-club swimmers throughout the United States.

Speedo will be sponsoring SwimmingWorld.TV's streaming coverage of the event, allowing Swimming World to bring viewers FREE live prelim and finals coverage. Swimming World TV will be streaming two pools simultaneously during preliminary sessions and one pool each evening.

All races will be available on the NCSA landing page for on-demand viewing. Swimming World will also provide a full photo gallery of the event on the landing page, courtesy of Swimming World intern Ally Barth.

This year's meet boasts 1,792 athletes from 250 teams, including London 2012 Olympic medalist Lia Neal. Other top athletes in attendance scheduled to race in Orlando this year include National Team member and distance sensation Rebecca Mann, Swimming World Magazine's male high school swimmer of the year Jack Conger and Kaitlyn Jones, who recently took down Missy Franklin's national independent high school record in the 200 IM.

The 2012 NCSA Junior Nationals proved to be an incredibly fast meet. Olympic gold medalist Katie Ledecky won female performance of the meet last year for her 15-16 National Age Group records in the women's 1650 and 1000 freestyle events. Both performances bettered 15-16 age group records set by Kate Zeigler in 2005.

Other top performances came from Rachel Bootsma and Jack Conger. Bootsma swam the fastest 50-meter backstroke in the world (27.84) on the last night of finals, in addition to nearly cracking a minute in the 100 meter backstroke and cinching numerous individual titles. Conger was all but untouchable on the male side, and won male performance of the meet for his stellar 200 meter backstroke. He'll be looking to assert his dominance again this year.

Because last year was an Olympic year, the 2012 NCSA Junior Nationals was formatted for short course yards in prelims and long course meters in finals. The 2013 version will feature all sessions in short course yards.

“The goal of the meet is exactly what we get: It's to create that team atmosphere,” Oakland Live Y'ers head coach Jeff Cooper told Swimming World on “The Morning Swim Show.”

“You see how fast people swim when they get into that team environment, like at a Big 10 Championship, and that's what we've tried to create.”
