Sarah Sjostrom Caps Astonishing Swedish Nationals With 100 Free Meet Record (With Race Video)

BORAS, Sweden, July 6. IT wasn’t close to the mind-altering speed she produced in the women’s 50-meter fly with her incredible 24.43 world record yesterday, but Sarah Sjostrom still managed to win the women’s 100-meter free tonight in 53.03 at Swedish Nationals.

That performance is just a bit off her second-ranked season best of 52.73 from the Eindhoven Swim Cup. Her time tonight is a meet record, cutting a second off her 54.02 from last year. Michelle Coleman raced to second in the finale with a 54.09, while Josefin Lindkvist turned in a third-place effort of 56.38.

Ida Marko-Varga won the women’s 200-meter fly by more than a second with a 2:14.16. Agnes Wiiand took second in the distance fly with a 2:15.19, while Elin Podeus wound up third in the finale with a time of 2:18.65. Louise Hansson cruised her way to victory in the women’s 200-meter IM with a 2:14.64, while Stina Gardell claimed second in 2:15.25. Celine Bertrand snared third in 2:20.06. Laura Lajunen grabbed the women’s 1500-meter free title in 17:15.64. Josefine Hippi (17:24.79) and Erica Dahlgren (17:29.12) earned second and third.

Simon Sjodin dominated the men’s 200-meter IM finale with a time of 2:01.16. Linus Kanth finished a distant second in 2:04.86 with Simon Frank claiming third in 2:05.04. Oscar Ekstrom put up a time of 1:50.99 to win in the men’s 200-meter free, while Robin Andreasson clipped Jesper Jonsson for second, 1:51.40 to 1:51.60.
