OLSZTYN, Poland, June 8. IT's been a strong week of action at the Polish Nationals for Wisla Polawy's Konrad Czerniak, and he finished in style with two more wins in Olsztyn.

Czerniak nearly made his way into the top 20 in the SwimVortex world rankings with a winning time of 48.89 in the men's 100-meter free. The time qualified him for the European Championships, but came up just a bit short of the top 20 currently anchored by Sergey Fesikov's 48.76 from Russian Nationals. Jan Holub took down a Polish junior record with a 49.38 for second, while Pawel Korzeniowski rounded out the podium in 49.50.

Czerniak backed up that swim with an impressive double as he rocketed to a 23.76 to win the men's 50-meter fly. That effort shot him to 14th in the world rankings as he accomplished an incredible double victory on the final day of competition. Szczecin's Oskar Krupecki took second in 24.20 with Katowice's Michael Poprawa finishing third in 24.37.


Katowice's Katarzyna Wilk raced her way to victory in the women's 100-meter free with a 55.83. Juvenia Wroclaw's Alicja Tchorz picked up second in 56.69, while Krakow's Natalia Pawlaczek earned third overall in 57.41.

Juvenia Wroclaw's Dominika Sztandera topped the women's 100-meter breaststroke finale with a time of 1:09.93, while Slask Wroclaw's Weronika Paluszek turned in a second-place 1:10.75. Szczecin's Paulina Zachoszcz finished third in the event with a 1:11.28.

In an exciting finish, Katowice's Mikolaj Machnik clipped Delfin Legionowo's Dawid Szulich, 1:01.61 to 1:01.76, in the men's 100-meter breaststroke. Machnik used a final 50 split of 32.54 to take home the win. Zoliborz Warszawa's Marcin Stolarski finished third overall in 1:02.86.

Slask Wroclaw's Anna Dowgiert edged Lodz' Aleksandra Urbanczyk, 26.60 to 26.69, in the women's 50-meter fly. Pietnastika Bydgoszcz's Anna Kozlowska wound up taking third in 27.97. Olsztyn's Joanna Zachoszcz claimed the women's 1500-meter free in 16:48.26 with Omega Klesczow's Barbara Wasilewksa finishing second in 16:55.74. Olsztyn's Monika Czerniak wound up third in 16:56.82.

Szczecin went 1-2 in the men's 800-meter free with Filip Zaborowski winning in 7:57.91 and Pawel Furtek taking second overall in 7:57.99. Unia Oswicim's Wojciech Wojdak was the only other sub-8:00 in the timed final with a third-place 7:58.45.
