Tjasa Vozel Breaks Slovenian Record At Kranj Grand Prix

KRANJ, Slovenia, June 7. TJASA Vozel set a new Slovenian record in the women’s 50 breast to kick off the first night of finals at the Kranj Grand Prix.

The meet got underway with finals in the men’s and women’s 50 breast. Vysokoskolsky Klub Univerzity’s Marek Botik took top honors in the men’s race with a 28.38, well ahead of PK Koper’s Matjaz Markic’s 29.01. Sasa Gerbec of Primorje placed third in 29.18. In the women’s race, PL Zvezda’s Tjasa Vozel topped the heat in 31.82, a new Slovenian record. Switzerland’s Lisa Mamie came in second in 32.90, with Ujpesti Torna Egylet’s Anna Sztankovics right behind in 32.92.

In the men’s 50 free, PK Ljubljana’s Anze Tavcar touched first in 23.14, .15 ahead of Beograd’s Radovan Siljevski (23.29). Andrej Barna of Plivacki Klub Spartak Suboti got to the wall third in 23.59. Nastja Govejsek of PK Velenje dominated the women’s 50 free, winning by more than a second in 25.67. Anemari Kosak of PK Neptun finished in 26.65 to take second while Austria’s Julia Kukla (26.90) rounded out the top three.

The final of the men’s 100 back came down to the touch, as PK Gorenjska Banka’s Zan Pogacar made up a seven-tenth deficit on Croatia’s Kristian Komlenic to touch first, 57.82 to 57.94. Austria’s Christoph Margotti swam a 59.43 to finish third. The women’s 100 back title went to Ujpesti Torna Egylet’s Kata Burian in 1:04.05. Ava Schollmayer of SD Riba finished right behind in 1:04.22, with Ema Sarar of Croatia only .03 behind in 1:04.25.

Switzerland’s Nils Liess dominated the men’s 200 free, winning the event by more than two seconds in 1:51.98. VOJ’s Uros Nikolic got to the wall second in 1:54.10, while SSU’s Andrej Barna claimed third place honors in 1:54.38. GBR’s Tjasa Pintar proved to be the best 200 freestyler in the women’s field with a winning time of 2:00.54. Teammate Anja Klinar came in second in 2:01.82 while Katharina Egger placed third in 2:05.00.

Radovan Siljevski of Beograd collected the men’s 100 fly title in 54.06. PK Gorenjska Banka’s Robert Zbogar flipped first at the halfway point but faded to second in 54.78, while Vysokoskolsky Klub Univerzity swimmer Lubos Grznar came in third at 55.23. Switzerland’s Svenja Stoffel topped the women’s 100 fly final in 1:00.75, with PK Olimpika’s Katja Hajdinjak a second behind in 1:01.86. Baerumsvoemmerne’s Klara Farkas claimed third in 1:02.19.

Austria’s Dominik Hitzinger got to the wall first in a tight finish in the men’s 200 breast. Hitzinger touched in 2:18.59 to just out-do Sascha Zwirschitz’s 2:18.77 and Luca Pfyffer’s 2:18.87. Anna Sztankovics had a much more comfortable margin of victory in the women’s 200 breast, however, winning by five-plus seconds in 2:34.49. Teja Kozelj of TK came in second in 2:39.64, while her teammate Katjusa Stanek touched third in 2:40.13.

GBR’s Robert Zbogar touched first in the men’s 200 IM by nearly three seconds with a 2:05.59. Heiko Gigler came in second in 2:08.29, while Patrick Staber of Austria rounded out the top three in 2:08.42. Reka Gyorgy won the women’s 200 IM by five and a half seconds, stopping the clock in 2:15.40. Tjasa Vozel of ZVK came in second at 2:20.92, a tenth ahead of Tjasa Pintar of GBR (2:21.02).

Two distance events closed out the first night of competition. PK Gorenjska’s Zan Pogacar posted the quickest time in the mens’ 1500 free at 17:10.33, 13 seconds ahead of second place finisher Andrej Resnik of PK Neptun (17:23.52). Nejc Kos of PK Lafarge Trbovlje placed third in 17:28.25. Nikoletta Kiss of Ujpesti Torna Egylet topped the women’s 800 free in 8:42.49, with PK Fuzinar’s Gaja Natlacen not far behind in 8:43.99. Her teammate, Tjasa Oder, came in third at 8:44.30.
