PSYCH SHEET: Japan’s Best To Race At Japan Open In Two Weeks

TOKYO, Japan, June 6. AT least a dozen of Japan’s top swimmers, including multiple Olympic gold medalists and World Championships medalists, are scheduled to compete in two weeks at the Japan Open, which runs June 19-22 in Tokyo. The meet is of high importance to Japan, as it will serve as the final opportunity for swimmers to qualify for the Asian Games and Pan Pacific Championships.

On the men’s side, standouts Ryosuke Irie, Ryo Tateishi, Kosuke Kitajima, Kosuke Hagino, Daiyo Seta and Shinri Shioura are all entered in multiple individual events. Other swimmers to look out for include Kenta Ito, Takuro Fujii, Takeshi Matsuda, Kohei Yamamoto, Yuki Shirai and Masaki Kaneko, who all have top 25 world rankings this year as well.

For the women, Noriko Inada, Kanako Watanabe, Rie Kaneto, Mio Motegi, Satomi Suzuki, Natsumi Hoshi, Miho Teramura and Marie Kamimura headline an outstanding field. It’s shaping up to be quite a battle in the women’s breaststroke events with multiple swimmers ranked in the top 25 internationally in all three breaststroke distances.
