Aleksandra Urbanczyk, Pawel Korzeniowski Grasp 4 Golds Each at Polish Grand Prix

OLSZTYN, Poland, May 25. THE Polish Grand Prix certainly knows how to get the most bang for its buck as it shoves a full meet schedule into a two-day, three-session timed final smorgasbord of swimming. At the Olsztyn stop, Aleksandra Urbanczyk and Pawel Korzeniowski survived the swimming onslaught with four wins each.

Urbanczyk tracked down the women’s 50-meter freestyle title in 25.36. Natalia Fryckowska (26.46) and Adrianna Niewiadomska (26.90) earned second and third in the finale. Urbanczyk followed that with a sizzling 28.37 in the women’s 50-meter backstroke. That time shot her into a 15th-place tie with Liu Xiang in the SwimVortex world rankings. Ludwika Szynal took second in 30.32 with Gabriela Wojtowicz earning third in 30.52.

Urbanczyk collected her third title of the meet with a 57.01 in the women’s 100-meter free, while Natalie Fryckowska (58.08) and Klaudia Jankowska (58.16) rounded out the top three. Urbanczyk finished just a bit outside the world top 20 in the women’s 50-meter fly with a 26.75 for her fourth victory. Paulina Nogaj (28.91) and Nikola Olszewska (29.15) finished second and third in the sprint fly.

Korzeniowski claimed the men’s 100-meter fly crown in 53.71, while Jan Switkowski earned second in 54.59. Marcin Opalski snared third in 55.45. Korzeniowski earned his second title of the meet with a 1:58.17 in the men’s 200-meter fly. Opalski moved up to second in 2:02.91 with Marcin Rzyski taking third in 2:04.10.

Korzeniowski’s third victory came by way of a 1:49.64 in the men’s 200-meter free. Kacper Majchrzak took second in 1:50.89 with Jan Switkowski placing third in 1:54.79. Win number four for Korzeniowski occurred in the men’s 50-meter fly with a 25.21. Maksymilian Zgierski (25.40) and Piotr Kowalik (25.68) rounded out the top three in the sprint fly finale.

Tomasz Polewka won the men’s 50-meter backstroke in 25.20. That’s just off his 15th-ranked 25.12 from the Opole stop of the Polish Grand Prix. Milosz Mikicin took second in 26.13 with Radoslaw Kawecki earning third in 26.33. Polewka then took second behind Kawecki in the men’s 100-meter back, 55.15 to 55.32. Krzysztof Morawski collected third in 57.21.

Kawecki collected his second title of the meet with a touchout triumph against Kacper Majchrzak in the men’s 200-meter IM, 2:06.40 to 2:06.48. Marcin Hulboj wound up third in 2:08.81. Kawecki put together his third win of the meet with a 1:58.89 in the men’s 200-meter back. Krzysztof Morawski touched second in 2:04.11 with Polewka taking third in 2:08.58.

Monika Czerniak won the women’s 400-meter IM in 4:58.52, while Paulina Sikora beat out Paulina Piechota for second, 5:04.21 to 5:04.44. Czerniak doubled up with a 2:05.24 in the 200-meter free, while Joanna Zachoszcz (2:05.69) and Justyna Burska (2:06.02) finished second and third.

Mirela Olczak won the women’s 100-meter fly in 1:01.69, while Paulina Sikora earned another second-place finish with a 1:02.79. Oriana Kowalinska took third in 1:04.49. Olczak returned with a 2:13.69 to win the women’s 200-meter fly as well. Sikora (2:14.84) and Kowalinska (2:18.87) helped produce the same podium as the 100 fly.

Katarzyna Nawarynska touched out Julia Gus in the women’s 100-meter back, 1:04.85 to 1:04.89. Kalina Gralewska finished third in 1:06.15. Gralewska bounced back in the women’s 200-meter IM with a 2:26.54 for the win. Malgorzata Niedzwiedzka (2:28.63) and Ludwike Szynal (2:29.86) finished second and third.

Kacper Majchrzak snatched the men’s 50-meter free crown in 23.07. Filip Wypych (23.32) and Pawel Korzeniowski (23.43) rounded out the top three. Majchrzak doubled up with a sprint free sweep as he clocked a 50.02 in the men’s 100-meter free. Piotr Ludwiczak (52.64) and Kamil Ambroziak (53.12) checked in with second and third-place finishes.

Mikolaj Machnik picked up the men’s 200-meter breast title in 2:16.80. Dawid Szulich finished second in 2:17.31 with Marcin Stolarski taking third in 2:17.91. Szulich and Machnik traded spots in the men’s 50-meter breast with Szulich winning in 28.22 and Machnik taking second in 28.96. Stolarski took third again with a 29.03. Szulich won the tie-breaker in the men’s 100-meter breast, 1:02.06 to 1:02.98 with Stolarski in third again with a 1:03.28.

Krzysztof Pielowski chased down the men’s 800-meter free title in 8:11.17 with Adam Dubiel taking second in 8:19.06. Wojciech Glyk wound up third in 8:19.28. Pielowski won again with a 3:59.01 in the men’s 400-meter free. Wojciech Glyk (3:59.28) and Adam Dubiel (3:59.75) also cleared 4:00 for second and third.

Angelika Wikiel turned in a 2:36.76 for the women’s 200-meter breaststroke title. Katarzyna Cieslak (2:39.82) and Wiktoria Nieszporek (2:40.12) finished second and third. Wikiel earned a second title with a 1:13.64 in the women’s 100-meter breast. Zuzanna Kit (1:13.85) and Martyna Drabik (1:13.94) didn’t make it easy with close finishes.

Martyna Drabik clocked a 33.13 to win the women’s 50-meter breast. Justyne Kasperuk (33.46) and Zuzanna Kit (33.57) rounded out the top three.

Joanna Zachoszcz took the women’s 400-meter free title in 4:18.05 with Monika Czerniak finishing second in 4:18.44. Justyna Burska placed third in 4:20.99. Zachoszcz won the women’s 800 free in 8:46.81 with Manuela Wikiel (8:55.93) and Monika Czerniak (8:58.08) completing the top three.

Dawid Szwedzki topped the men’s 400-meter IM with a 4:30.58, while Adam Dubiel touched second in 4:32.03. Konrad Stepien placed third in 4:38.80.

Gabriela Wojtowicz snared the women’s 200-meter backstroke crown in 2:19.44. Kalina Gralewska finished second in 2:23.18 with Katarzyna Nawarynska placing third in 2:23.30.
