Missy Franklin, Diana Nyad Named Two Of ESPNW’s Impact 10 Athletes Of 2013

PHOENIX, Arizona, December 12. OLYMPIC and world champion Missy Franklin and open water swimming phenom Diana Nyad recently earned recognition by ESPNW as part of Impact 10 — ten female athletes who made the biggest impact in 2013. Franklin came in at No. 3, while Nyad finished right behind in fourth.

Franklin earned a record six gold medals at the FINA World Championships this summer, and is already making a huge impact in her freshman year at the University of California. In September, Nyad, 64, successfully completed her fifth attempt to swim from Cuba to Florida, a 103-mile journey that took 53 hours to complete. She first attempted the swim in 1978 and had been unsuccessful in her previous four attempts.
