PHOENIX, Arizona, December 12. OLYMPIC and world champion Missy Franklin and open water swimming phenom Diana Nyad recently earned recognition by ESPNW as part of Impact 10 -- ten female athletes who made the biggest impact in 2013. Franklin earned a record six gold medals at the FINA World Championships this summer, and is already making a huge impact in her freshman year at the University of California. In September, Nyad, 64, successfully completed her fifth attempt to swim from Cuba to Florida, a 103-mile journey that took 53 hours to complete. She first attempted the swim in 1978 and had been unsuccessful in her previous four attempts.
