Mark Sanchez Torrens Moves Into Top 5 in 800 Free

CASTELLON, Spain, December 1. IN the penultimate session of the Spanish Open Short Course Championships, Mark Sanchez Torrens posted a top five time during timed finals of the men’s 800 free.

Torrens continued his strong weekend with yet another triumph as he clocked a 7:43.61 to win the men’s 800 free. That moved Torrens to second in the world rankings in the event. Victor Manuel Martin took second in 7:52.38, while G. Sanchez Gutierrez-Cabello picked up third-place honors in 7:52.50.

Melanie Costa Schmid took home the women’s 100-meter free title in 53.88, just half-a-second off her meet record of 53.58 from 2011. Fatima Gallardo Carapeto placed second in 54.95 to down the Spanish junior record for 16 year olds. Beatriz Gomez Cortes took third overall in 55.28.

Poland’s Konrad Czerniak raced his way to a 47.78 for the men’s 100 free crown. That fell about a half-a-second off the meet record as well, currently held by Matias Aguilera with a 47.28 from 2009. Miguel Ozeki touched second in 48.20, while M.F. Aguilera Melendez took third in 48.42.

Jessica Vall Montero snared the women’s 100 breast title in 1:07.13, while Evelyn Alvarez Perez and Concepcion Badillo Diaz battled for second with Perez winning, 1:07.55 to 1:07.63. B.K. Ozeki followed with a 1:00.86 victory in the men’s 100 breast. Fernando Morillas Ramos took second in 1:00.97, while Adzubenam Gonzalez Cabrera placed third in 1:00.98.

Duane Da Rocha Marce powered to a win in the women’s 100 back with a 59.21, while Lidon Munoz Del Campo touched second in 1:00.43. Laura Yus Fernandez claimed third in 1:01.01. Miguel Ozeki transitioned from second in the 100 free to a win in the men’s 100 back with a 51.20. Juan Miguel Rando Galvez took second in 51.69, while Santos Manancas Da Silva wound up third in 53.50.
