Missy Franklin Named One of Time Magazine’s Most Influential Teens of 2013

NEW YORK CITY, New York, November 12. MULTIPLE gold medals, a 1000-watt smile and a positive attitude have helped Missy Franklin make Time Magazine’s list of the 16 Most Influential Teens of 2013.

The magazine said Franklin’s decision to turn down professional endorsements to attend the University of California-Berkeley, plus her Sportswoman of the Year win at the Women’s Sports Foundation’s gala last month were just three things that got Franklin on the list.

Also included was her feat of winning six gold medals at the world championships in Barcelona, becoming the first woman to do so. Having nearly 370,000 Twitter followers certainly had an influence on the editors at Time in adding her to the list, which includes just one other athlete.

Following are the remaining names on the list:

Recording artist Justin Beiber
Scientist Ionut Budisteanu
Computer application programmer Nick D’Aloisio
Fashion icon Dante de Blasio
Reality show celebrities Kendall and Kylie Jenner
Golfer Lydia Ko
Recording artist Lorde
Actress Chloe Grace Moretz
First Kid Malia Obama
Author Beth Reekles
Actress Kiernan Shipka
Actress Hailee Steinfeld
Author Maya Van Wagenen
Women’s rights activist Malala Yousafzai
