FINA Announces Pair of Anti-Doping Two-Year Bans

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, October 7. FINA announced recently that a pair of two-year bans has recently been handed out to swimmers for failing doping control tests.

Bulgarian record holder Alexander Nikolov tested positive for Stanozolol (Class S.1.1.a Exogenous Anabolic Androgenic Steroids) for a positive test on March 23, 2013 at the Bulgarian National Championships held in Sofia.

The Bulgarian Swimming Federation announced that it would ban Nikolov for two years dating back to the positive test. Nikolov holds national records in the 100 free in long course meter competition, as well as the 100 free and 200 free in short course meter competition.

Meanwhile, Romanian youngster Alexandra Radu drew a two-year ban for testing positive for Dehydroclormethyltestosterone (Class S.1.1.a Exogenous Anabolic Androgenic Steroids). The test took place on June 21, 2013 at the Romanian Senior, Junior National Championships in Bucharest.

The two-year ban comes down from the Romanian Hearing Commission, and will date back to July 22, 2013.
