Australia Wins Raia Rapida Fast Lane Series in Brazil

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, September 29. AUSTRALIA stepped up with a victory against Brazil at the Raia Rapida (Fast Lane) competition today in Rio de Janeiro. The meet, that was recently moved to the Botafogo Aquatic Center, had Australia pulling off a victory in the final event.

Australia managed to edge the Brazilians in the final race of the night when Daniel Arnamnart (25.98), Christian Sprenger (26.66), Matt Targett (23.29) and Matthew Abood (22.30) combined for a 1:38.23 to win the 200 medley relay. Brazil’s Daniel Orzechowski (25.88), Joao Gomes Jr (28.04), Nicholas Dos Santiso (23.71) and Alan Vitoria (22.30) took second in 1:39.93.

The defending champion USA squad of Adam Mania, Mike Alexandrov, Eugene Godsoe and Josh Schneider managed to take third in the team standings, while the French squad of Florent Manaudou, Giacomo Perez-Dortona, Fred Bousquet and Fabien Gilot pretty much guaranteed a fourth-place finish by taking dead last in every sprint during round one.

The final round of head-to-head sprints before heading into the decisive 200 medley relay, finished as follows:
