Indiana Commitment Teddy Kalp of North York Talks To SwimmingWorld.TV

NORTH YORK, Ontario, Canada, September 18. TODAY, Indiana University Class of 2014 commit Teddy Kalp took a few minutes to talk to Swimming World Canadian contributor Mike Thompson in a quick interview to talk about his experiences this past year that included a near season-ending illness as well as a great recruiting experience with the Hoosiers.

Kalp, the No. 65 recruit as ranked by CollegeSwimming.com, will provide Indiana head coach Ray Looze and associate head coach Mike Westphal another strong member to its ever-improving distance group.

Kalp had an impressive run this summer as a member of Team Ontario at the ultra-important Canada Games in Sherbrooke, Quebec, as well as taking part in the World Junior Championships in Dubai.

Kalp placed in the final in the 400-meter freestyle in Dubai with a 3:54.64, while also making finals in the 800-meter freestyle where he clocked an 8:04.20. Additionally, Kalp clocked a 3:52.45 in prelims of the 400 free in Dubai, and posted a 1:50.06 leadoff for Canada’s 800-meter free relay.

Meanwhile, Kalp dominated at the Canada Games in Quebec with several wins. He won the 400 free (3:55.76) and 800 free (8:11.77), as well as helped the men’s 400 free and 800 free relays to victories.

“I felt that it was the right choice for me,” Kalp said of his commitment to Indiana via his CollegeSwimming.com profile. “The team, and the program, was so amazing, and I feel that huge improvement is on the way.”

With the likes of Big Ten powerhouse Lindsay Vrooman and IU’s top male distance swimmer Jim Barbiere finding incredible success swimming for Westphal, that improvement Kalp writes about is almost assured to come during his years in Bloomington.
