Libby Trickett Set to Appear on Aussie Version of Dancing With the Stars

SYDNEY, Australia, August 28. OLYMPIC swimming champion Libby Trickett will take part in the new season of the Australian version of “Dancing With the Stars” this fall.

Trickett, who retired from competitive swimming (for the second time) in July, will need her years of physical training to compete for the title as the best celebrity dancer Down Under. She will be the sixth swimming Olympic champion to dance on the show, joining Shane Gould, Dawn Fraser, Brooke Hanson, Elka Graham and Michael Klim as former competitors. Gould was the third celebrity to be eliminated in the second season in 2005, while Fraser made it all the way to the fifth round in the third season later that year. Michael Klim and Brooke Hanson were the first to be eliminated in their respective seasons in 2007 and 2008, while Graham made it to the third round in the same season as Klim.

Across the world, British Olympian Mark Foster was on the UK version recently, and American audiences will remember Natalie Coughlin’s run in the American version of the show in 2009.

The other competitors in the upcoming season of Australia’s “Dancing With the Stars” include pop singer Tina Arena, game show host Tony Barber, Miss Universe Australia Jesinta Campbell, magician Consentino, actress Rhiannon Fish, Olympic champion pole vaulter Steve Hooker, radio talk show host Brendan Jones, TV talk show host Sally Obermeder, reality show contestant Sophia Pou and twin models Jordan and Zac Stenmark.
