BARCELONA, Spain, July 30. SELINA Hocke, the only swimmer representing Germany yesterday in the 100 backstroke, will not swim the medley relay next Sunday, and her replacement will be flown in from Berlin.

Hocke placed 31st in the 100 backstroke yesterday with a 1:02.94, more than a second slower than she swam to place second at the German world trials. According to BZ Berlin, Lisa Graf is on her way to Berlin to swim backstroke in Sunday’s medley relay. Graf placed third in the 100 backstroke in the German trials with a 1:01.90.
Jenny Mensing, the winner of the 100 back in Berlin in April, withdrew from the meet due to health problems that kept her from a regular training schedule.

“It was just a mental thing,” Hocke told BZ Berlin. “I was terribly nervous because everything came tumbling down on me. I hope I can do better in the 50 (backstroke).”

It’s unclear if Hocke will also swim the 200 backstroke in Barcelona.
