BARCELONA, Spain, July 29. IT’s been known since the Mesa Grand Prix when Ryan Lochte told reporters that he’d planned on leaving Gainesville after Worlds. This weekend, he confirmed some of his nomadic plans with the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

After 11 years of living and training in a single place, Lochte wants to see some of the world. He has now confirmed that not only is he planning on training with Denis Cotterell in Australia during a four-month stint, but he also has plans of working with Dave Marsh at SwimMAC in Charlotte. He’s likely to be rooming with fellow Olympian Cullen Jones as Marsh continues to build up his post-grad and professional unit. He’s already landed Kirsty Coventry, news broken with SwimmingWorld.TV earlier this week from the Casa Arena in Barcelona.

“I’m still going to have a place (in Gainesville), because no matter what I do, Troy’s going to be my coach,” Lochte said. “That will never change. But I’m going to try different atmospheres, different coaches, different people to swim against. I think that will be really exciting for me. [SwimMAC has] a bunch of really great swimmers out there and a great coach, just like Troy.”

During the Mesa Grand Prix, Lochte had talked about potentially moving to Los Angeles if his television career took off. Unfortunately, his reality television production didn’t hit on all cylinders and he’s since decided not to head to Southern California.

“I’m not going to be the same swimmer where I just went in the water and did millions and millions of yardage all the time and just hurt my body non-stop,” he said. “No, I’m getting older and my body can’t handle that. So I’m going to start doing different things like more speedwork.”
