KAZAN, Russia, July 16, 2013. TODAY, was the last preliminary heats for the finals this evening. Nikita Lobintsev, RUS, put up the fasted 100 free split with a 48.17, however, it wasn't enough to stop Team Japan from qualifying first at 3:37.10 in the 400 medley relay. Russia was second in at 3:37.54 with the USA securing lane three in third place with a safe 3:38.03.

Chelsea Chenault, USA, surprisingly missed the cut in the women's 400 freestyle with a 4:14.04. That is news if you're Chelsea Chenault. It will probably be the last time anyone sees that.

This evening is the final night for swimming. Relaxing, going out on the town and visiting some of the sights are on everyone's agenda.

Women's 400m Freestyle
It's been a long week. The women's 400m free prelims ended with Elena Sokolova, RUS, putting up the fastest time in the prelims with a 4:11.71. In second was Caitlin McClatchey, GBR, at 4:11.84 and Stephanie Peacock, USA, in third at 4:12.21. Leah Neale, AUS, came in fourth, touching in 4:12.89 and fifth was Brittany Maclean, CAN, in 4:13.22. Rounding off 6th was Marina De Memme, FRA, at 4:13.24 and 7th went to Savanh King, CAN 4:13.73 with Katie Goldman, AUS, 8th at 4:13.89.

USA's Stephanie Peacock made final but Chelsea Chenault, USA, missed the cut with a 4:14.04.

Men's 400m Individual Medley
Japan's Takeharu Fujimora, JPN, took the top slot qualifying first in 4:19.47 off pace cruising in. In second was Michael Weiss, USA, swimming a controlled 4:20.78. In third was Alec Page, CAN, posting a 4:20.85. Fifth is Lewis Smith, GBR, 4:20.87, sixth Semen Makovich, RUS, 4:20.99 and seventh went to Adam Hinshaw, USA, in at 4:21.64, with eighth going to Yury Suvorau, BLR, closing out the qualifying in 4:21.91.

Women's 4x100m Medley Relay
Russia once again put up the numbers in the women's 400m medley relay (Gromova, Novikova, Tsvetkova, Nesterkova) qualifying first in 4:04.46, well off the USA world record of 3:52.05. In second was the USA with a 4:06.51 (Stewart, McClellan, Tran, Murez). Murez put up the fastest 100 free split of the morning with a 54.68. Third place was Canada (Soucisse, Rissling, Harricharan, LaPierre) 4:07.23. Fourth was Australia 4:07.41, fifth Japan, 4:07.47, sixth Italy 4:08.29, seventh Ukraine 4:11.20 and eighth was France in at 4:12.23.

Men's 4x100m Medley Relay
The final and last qualifying event of the WUGs was the men's 400 medley relay. Team Japan (Tada, Koseki, Umenoto, Nakamura) grabbed lane 4 with a 3:37.10. Second was Russia at 3:37.54 (Melnikov, Sinkevich, Konolov, Lobintsev). And third went to the USA (Pebley, Miller, Smith, Toomey) at 3:38.03. Lobintsev from Russia had the fastest 100 free split nearly joining the 47 club, with a 48.17. Konovalov, RUS, posted the fastest fly split with a 52.59.

In fourth place was Italy 3:39.67, fifth Canada 3:39.94, sixth Australia 3:40.05, seventh Estonia 3:42.98, and eighth was South Africa 3:43.19.
