Queensland Hosting 2014 Australian Championships, Home of Alicia Coutts

AUSTRALIA, May 31. BRISBANE will host the 2014 EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships, as announced by Swimming Australia. The meet is used as a selection qualifier for the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games team and will run April 1-6, 2014. It is the first time in eight years that the Championship returns to the state of Queensland.

Swimming Australia will see a lot of local competition throughout 2014. In addition to the BPH Billiton Aquatic Super Series returning to Perth in January, the Gold Coast will host the Pan Pacific Championships in August.

“With 2014 being such an important year for the sport, kicking off in Perth in January and culminating in the Pan Pacs on the Gold Coast, Brisbane is the ideal place to host next year's EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships,” said Swimming Australia CEO Mark Anderson.

Five-time Olympic medalist Alicia Coutts, Olympic silver medalists Emily Seebohm and Christian Sprenger and Olympic qualifier Cameron McEvoy all hail from Queensland. Brisbane is the capital of the Australian state.

“Many of our best athletes and coaches are based in South East Queensland and Swimming Queensland has a very active and vibrant club scene in the area as well,” said Anderson.
