Yannick Agnel Out Of Individual Events at Worlds; Plans Move to U.S.

NICE, France, May 18. THE French Swimming Federation announced yesterday that Olympic gold medalist Yannick Agnel has elected to withdraw from any individual events this summer at the Barcelona World Championships. Agnel will be focusing on a change of scenery, as Agnel would like to move to the United States to train.

The press release states that as part of his research into where he would prefer to wind up in the U.S., he has not been able to as much focus on training. Therefore, Agnel will only remain available to the French squad in Barcelona for relay duty as stated by the French Swimming Federation.

The primary goal for Agnel, as well as the French Swimming Federation, is for Agnel to continue his swimming career well past Barcelona and into the 2016 Rio Games. The plan is to secure a training location by September 2013.

The 2012 European Swimmer of the Year, as named by Swimming World, is a two-time Olympic gold medalist for France, having topped the 200-meter freestyle in London and been a part of the epic 400-meter freestyle victory for the French. He also took silver in London as part of the 800-meter freestyle as well.
