Camille Muffat, Yannick Agnel Chase World Records in France

ANGERS, France, November 18. CAMILLE Muffat and Yannick Agnel, teammates at Olympic Nice Natation, wrapped up competition at the French short course meters nationals by chasing the world marks in the 200 freestyle.

Muffat, who broke the world record in the 800 freestyle on Friday, swam a 1:51.65 in the 200 free, breaking her own national record of 1:52.28 set last month at the World Cup meet in Berlin. She is inching closer to Federica Pellegrini's world record of 1:51.17, set in 2009. Interestingly, Muffat was under world record pace for 150 meters before pulling back in the final 50 meters.

Pellegrini's world record splits:
26.58, 54.84 (28.26), 1:23.09 (28.25), 1:51.17 (28.08)

Muffat's national record splits:
25.81, 53.79 (27.98), 1:22.51 (28.72), 1:51.65 (29.14)

Placing second today was Charlotte Bonnet with a 1:55.13, while Lotte Friis of Denmark was third with a 1:57.13.

Agnel made a similar run at Paul Biedermann's world record of 1:39.37, falling short with a 1:39.70. Agnel, however, did reset his own national mark of 1:41.95 from 2010. Agnel's accomplishments this weekend included a world record in the 400 free Thursday and a European record in the 800 free. Like Muffat, Agnel was under record pace for 150 meters before falling off in the final stretch.

23.79, 49.29 (25.50), 1:14.72 (25.43), 1:39.37 (24.65)

Agnel's national record splits:
23.13, 48.39 (25.26), 1:14.11 (25.72), 1:39.70 (25.59)

In today's race, Gregory Mallet was second with a 1:43.87, with Mehdy Metella third with a 1:45.14.

Anna Santamans started the session with a win in the women's 50 freestyle, posting a 24.69. Denmark's Pernille Blume was second with a 24.81, while Melanie Henique placed third with a 25.02.

Fred Bousquet made a run at his national record of 22.17 in the 50 butterfly, taking the national title with a 22.57. Jeremy Stravius was second with a 23.03 and Spain's Rafael Munoz took third with a 23.15.

Fantine Lesaffre captured the women's 400 IM title in 4:39.04, using a strong breaststroke leg to pull ahead of Isabelle Mabboux, who was second with a 4:41.08. Adeline Martin finished third with a 4:41.27.

Giacomo Perez Dortona took the men's 200 breast title with a 2:07.01, beating out William Debourges' time of 2:08.54. Malik Fall was third with a 2:11.07.

Alexianne Castel, a finalist in the 200 backstroke at the 2012 Olympics, won the French short course national title today with a 2:05.42. She has the national record with a 2:01.67 from 2010. Second place went to Auriane De Premilhat with a 2:08.96, while Marie Jugnet took third with a 2:11.53.
