Olympic Medalists Highlight Day Two of Chinese Nationals

HUANGSHAN, China, September 23. OLYMPIC medalists Tang Yi and Lu Ying were the stars of day two at the Chinese long course nationals.

Tang, the bronze medalist in the women's 100 free in London with a 53.44, won the event today in 54.37. Shen Duotook second with a 54.89 and Cao Yue finished third in 55.42.

Lu Ying won silver in the women's 100 butterfly in the London Olympics on the strength of a powerful final 50, and she showed her sprint prowess today as well with a win in the 50 butterfly in 26.39, her fastest time in the event this year. She swam a 26.42 in the nationals in April. Ling Shuyuan was second with a 26.96 and Guo Pan finished third in 27.07.

Another swim of note today took place in the women's 800 freestyle, where Xu Danlu, reported to be 13 years old, swam an 8:27.43. The time places the youngster 18th in the 2012 world rankings, with 15-year-old Katie Ledecky's Olympic winning time of 8:14.63 leading the pack. Information on second and third place finishes were not made available.

Huang Chaosheng won the men's 400 individual medley with a 4:12.25, which puts him 13th in the world and third in China behind the April swims of Yang Zhixian (4:11.92) and Wang Chengxiang (4:12.02). Yang was second today with a 4:14.19, while Wang was third in 4:16.59.

Lu Zhiwu won the men's 50 freestyle with a 22.82. Shi Yang was a close second with a 22.92, and Zhang Qibin was right behind in 22.96.

Sun Yang's efforts were not enough to help his Zhejiang team win the men's 800 freestyle relay. Shanghai won the race in 7:22.42, as Zhejiang was second with a 7:25.31. Sun's relay split, as well as the third-place team, was not made available.
