British National Team Coach Ben Titley Heading to Canada

PHOENIX, Arizona, September 13. BEN Titley, who guided Liam Tancock and others to world records, world championship titles and Olympic medals, is moving to Toronto to coach at the National Swim Center there after 16 years at Loughborough University.

Titley's move comes about one year after marrying his wife, Nikki, who was born in Canada. The new job puts the new couple closer to her family, according to the announcement by British Swimming. Titley will start work in Toronto in October.

Titley has had a long history of working with top swimmers. In 2003, he helped James Gibson win the 50 breaststroke world title, which was followed by an appearance in the 2004 Olympic final in the 100 breaststroke.

Titley was the women's head coach for Great Britain in the 2008 Olympics, where two of his swimmers won Olympic medals. David Davies took silver in the 10K marathon swim, and Joanne Jackson earned a bronze in the 400 freestyle. Tancock, Fran Halsall and James Goddard also earned spots in several Olympic finals.

Tancock won the world championship title in 2009 and 2011 in the 50 backstroke, setting the current world record in 2009.

At the 2012 Games, Tancock, Halsall, Goddard and Lizzie Simmonds were Titley-coached swimmers who competed in the finals.

“The last 16 years based at Loughborough University, and specifically the last seven years with British Swimming, has been an unbelievable experience for which I will always be grateful,” Titley said.
