|SAO PAULO, Brazil, August 22. GUILHERME Guido put on the steam in the men's 50 back during prelims with a South American and Brazilian record in short course action at the Jose Finkel Trophy meet today.
Guido blasted a South American and Brazilian record in the men's 50 back with a 23.31 in prelims. He held the previous record with a 23.39 from the Singapore stop of the World Cup in 2010. He now stands tied for 16th all time in the event history. He wound up second in semis with a 23.93 behind Daniel Orzechowski's 23.67. Fabio Santi qualified third in 24.31.
Marieke Guehrer turned in a meet-record time of 57.34 to capture the women's 100 fly, while Inge Dekker raced to second in 57.39. Daynara De Paula touched third in 58.17.
Etiene Medeiros took down the meet record in the women's 50 back with a 26.99 in semis. That swim eclipsed the 27.12 she set back in 2010. Fabiola Molina (27.75) and Natalia Diniz (27.94) rounded out the top three in the qualifying.
Femke Heemskerk continued her strong outing in Sao Paulo with a meet-record time of 4:07.81 in the women's 400 free for the win. That swim beat Kristel Kobrich's 4:08.06 from 2010. Manuella Lyrio placed second in 4:08.94, while Poliana Okimoto touched third in 4:12.00.
Kaio Almeida, who already set the meet record with a 50.50 during semis, cruised to victory in the men's 100 fly with a 50.74. Gabriel Mangabeira placed second in 51.85, while Henrique De Souza snared third in 51.90.
Julia Sebastian won the women's 100 breast in 1:08.24, while Ana Carvalho touched second in 1:09.00. Tatiane Sakemi picked up third in 1:09.01. Felipe Silva raced to victory in the men's 100 breast with a 58.17, with Felipe Lima just behind with a second-place 58.26. Henrique Barbosa rounded out the podium with a 58.62. Giuliano Rocco captured the men's 400 free crown in 3:47.22, while Andre Schultz (3:47.50) and Lucas Kanieski (3:47.63) wound up second and third.
Julyana Kury posted a 1:02.94 to lead the women's 100 IM semis, while Flavia Delaroli-Cazziolato placed second in 1:03.50. Ana De Azambuja (1:03.90) and Alessandra Marchioro (1:04.00) qualified third and fourth.
