2012 London Olympics, Modern Pentathlon: Egypt’s Amro El Geziry Sets Olympic Record in Swimming Discipline of Modern Pentathlon

LONDON, England, August 11. EGYPT's Amro El Geziry broke the Olympic record in the swimming portion of the men's modern pentathlon at the 2012 London Olympics today. China's Cao Zhongrong, however, remained in the lead after the fencing and swimming stages of the event.

El Geziry improved his own Olympic record from the 2008 Beijing Olympics with a time of 1:55.70 in the swimming portion, that includes a 200-meter freestyle swim. His previous record was a 1:55.86. Great Britain's Nick Woodbridge took second in swimming with a 1:57.32, while Cao finished third in 1:58.93.

The modern pentathlon includes five events: pistol shooting, fencing, 200-meter freestyle swim, show jumping and a 3K cross country run.
