LONDON, England, August 10. RUSSIA set a record in synchronized swimming on Friday by winning a fourth consecutive gold medal in the team event at the 2012 London Olympics.

Russia proved unbeatable with its aggressive and explosive routine. It finished with 98.930, bringing their overall total to 197.030, thanks to its perfectly executed leg work and the height of its jumps above the water.

China, second after the technical routine ahead of Spain, consolidated its advantage in the free routine, scoring 97.010 for an overall 194.010. The Chinese team won its first silver medal, adding to the bronze won in the duet earlier in the Games. Its routine was clean and well executed, with outstanding synchronization.

Spain, who finished second at Beijing 2008, took the bronze this time with 96.920. Its freestyle performance was notable not only for the powerful lifts and jumps, but also for the presentation and choreography. Its routine had an ocean creatures theme and the team walked in wearing silver hats and costumes sequined like fish scales. Spain swam to imitate dolphins, sharks, waves and fish, enthralling the audience and gaining 48.600 points for artistic impression towards its total of 193.120.

Similar to the duet, Canada continued on a Cirque du Soleil-inspired routine, confirming its fourth position with 95.203 and overall 189.630. Japan missed the podium in synchronized swimming for the first time since the sport was introduced in 1984. Japan placed fifth with 187.630.
