LONDON, England, August 1. CHINA has continued to be untouchable in the diving well as the nation won its fourth gold medal out of four attempts during the men's three-meter synchronized event at the 2012 London Olympics.

The team of Qin Kai and Luo Yutong posted a dominant tally of 477.00 points, including a stunning front four-and-a-half, to win the event on the fourth day of diving. The dive proved to be the dive of the meet thus far.

The duo demonstrated why they are world champions when they performed the spectacular dive, that carries a 3.8 degree of difficulty, en route to a massing 104.83 points from the dive. It is the highest scoring single dive of the competition thus far. The win is the second straight for Qin, who won this event in 2008 as well.

Russia's Ilya Zakharov and Evgeny Kuznetsov placed second with 459.63 points, while USA's Kristian Ipsen and Troy Dumais produced a bronze-medal performance with a 446.70 tally. The U.S., which had come into the competition on a 12-year podium drought, now has three medals.

Dumais, 32, finally scored a medal in his fourth attempt. He has competed at every Olympics since the introduction of synchronized diving at the 2000 Sydney Games, and his previous best was fourth in this event that year.

Ukrain's Ilya Kvasha and Oleksiy Prygorov took fourth with 434.22 points, while Great Britain's Chris Mears and Nicholas Robinson-Baker placed fifth with 432.60 points. In 2009, Mears ruptured his spleen while diving in Australia, and had it removed. He was not given a good chance to survive the injury, but managed to fight through the medical issues to get to the Olympics. His father, Paul, was nominated to carry the 2012 Olympic Torch in honor of Chris' recovery.
