Polish Long Course Championships: Konrad Czerniak Snares 100 Fly Title

OLSZTYN, Poland, May 14. DURING the penultimate day of competition at the Polish Long Course Championships, Konrad Czerniak checked in with a solid time in the men's 100 fly en route to a victory.

Konrad Czerniak clipped the FINA A cut in the men's 100 fly with a 52.28. He had already posted a much swifter time earlier in the year, however, with an eighth-ranked 52.07 from the open finals of the British Olympic Trials in March. Oskar Krupecki (52.88) missed giving Poland a second A cut by half-a-second, while Pawel Korzeniowski picked up third in 53.27.

A day after setting a Polish record, Marcin Tarczynski cruised to victory in the men's 200 IM with a 2:01.12. The time fell short of the FINA A cut of 2:00.17. Lukasz Wojt took second in 2:02.72, while Piotr Jachowicz finished third in 2:04.50.

Otylia Jedrzejczak claimed the women's 100 fly in 59.21, while Anna Dowgiert (1:00.97) and Mirela Olczak (1:02.25) earned second and third-place honors.

Kinga Cichowska earned the women's 200 breast title in 2:30.39, while Weronika Paluszek took second in 2:31.56. Paulina Szydlo finished third in 2:31.70. Slawomir Kuczko dominated the men's 200 breast with a 2:12.75, while Mikolaj Machnik took a distant second in 2:15.63. Maciej Certa placed third in 2:15.85.

Donata Kilijanska took home the women's 400 free title in 4:15.07, while Barbara Wasilewska touched second in 4:16.29. Aleksandra Bernat wound up third in 4:17.13. Paula Zukowska posted a 2:19.81 to win the women's 200 IM. Karolina Urbanska (2:20.30) and Katazyna Staszkiewicz (2:20.41) placed second and third.

In non-Olympic events, Alicja Tchorz won the women's 50 back in 28.76. Aleksandra Ubranczyk set the Polish record in the event with a 28.41 last month. Klaudia Nazieblo (29.10) and Agnieszka Krzyzostaniak (29.57) placed second and third. Marcin Unold topped the men's 50 back in 25.94, while Radoslaw Kawecki (26.39) and Tomek Polewka (26.42) finished second and third.
