French Olympic Trials: Three More Selected for Olympic Squad

DUNKERQUE, France, March 25. THE French Olympic Trials came to a close with an upset in the men's 1500 free in Dunkerque, France.

Women's 50 free
Cuts: Heats: 26.00; Semis: 25.37; Finals: 25.27
Anna Santamans earned a spot on the Olympic roster after making it through a three-tiered qualifying gauntlet. Santamans remained eligible for selection in the finale with a 25.38 and a 25.23 in prelims and semis. She then clinched her spot on the Olympic roster with a 25.16 to rank 21st in the world. No one else made the Olympic squad.

Justine Bruno (26.00), Mathilde Cini (26.09), Alena Popchanka (26.14), Angela Tavernier (26.22), Isabelle Mabboux (26.43), Maria-Elena Letang (26.43) and Elodie Schmitt (26.90) also swam in the finale.

Men's 1500 free
Cuts: Heats: 15:35.00; Finals: 15:11.83
Anthony Pannier (15:01.43) and Damien Joly (15:02.43) secured two spots for France at the Olympics in the metric mile. They moved to fourth and fifth in the world rankings with their efforts. Only Tae Hwan Park (14:47.38), Daniel Fogg (14:55.30) and David Davies (15:00.73) have been faster this year.

Sebastien Rouault (15:10.09), Julien Sauvage (15:18.57), Enzo Vial Collet (15:23.67), Charlie Cuignet (15:33.52), Damien Cattin Vidal (15:40.97) and Romain Beraud (15:58.48) also competed in the finale. Rouault, the French record holder, surprisingly missed the Olympics in the event.
