Austrian Short Course Qualifying Meet: Laura Letrari Sets Meet Record; Lisa Zaiser Downs Austrian Record -- November 27, 2011

WIENER NEUSTADT, Austria, November 27. THE final day of action at the Austrian Short Course Qualifying Meet came to a close with another Austrian record being stricken from the record books.

Triin Aljand won the women's 50 free in 24.70 to move to 17th in the world rankings. Erica Ferraioli (25.17) and Erica Buratto (25.43) took second and third, respectively. Mads Glaesner clocked a 3:45.68 to win the men's 400 free and move to 25th in the world rankings. Christian Scherubl (3:46.82) and Federico Colbertaldo (3:47.02) completed the podium.

Dinko Jukic, who stands seventh in the world with a 1:53.17 from the Dubai stop of the World Cup, cruised to victory in the men's 200 fly with a 1:54.83. Francesco Pavone touched second in 1:56.85, while Jakub Maly claimed third in 2:00.61.


Laura Letrari set a meet record in the women's 100 IM with a 1:00.72. That swim beat the 1:01.09 set by Fabiola Molina back in 2009, but missed Letrari's 11th-ranked season best of 59.97 from August. Lisa Zaiser finished second in 1:01.32, downing her Austrian record of 1:01.37 set during prelims, which in turn broke the 1:01.59 set by Mirna Jukic back in 2008. Erica Buratto took third in 1:02.53.

USA's Randall Bal claimed the men's 50 free in 22.49, while Martin Spitzer placed second in 22.72. Marco Macciola finished third in 23.28. Martina De Memme captured the women's 400 free in 4:08.06. Martina Caramignoli finished second in 4:09.32, while Diletta Carli earned third in 4:10.13.

Lisa Zaiser won the women's 50 breast in 31.85, while Tjasa Vozel (31.90) and Christina Strigl (31.98) rounded out the top three. Meanwhile, Mustafa Kacmaz and Omer Aslanoglu tied for the men's 50 breast title with matching 28.42s. Hunor Mate took third in 28.43.

Birgit Koschischek stopped the clock in 2:09.98 to win the women's 200 fly. Melissa Akarsu finished second in 2:12.64, while Nida Eliz Ustundag took third in 2:14.73. Peter Mankoc won the men's 100 IM in 54.53, while Dinko Jukic placed second in 54.66. Martin Spitzer took home third in 54.73.
