Austrian Short Course Qualifying Meet: Markus Rogan Moves Into Top 10; Triin Aljand, Mads Glaesner Set Meet Records

WIENER NEUSTADT, Austria, November 26. THE second day of racing at the Austrian Short Course Qualifying Meet is in the books with a pair of meet records taking a tumble.

Markus Rogan blasted a time of 1:55.07 to win the men's 200 IM. That swim bettered his 10th-ranked season best of 1:56.02 from the Singapore stop of the World Cup, and moved him to eighth in the world. Dinko Jukic took second in 1:57.00 for 20th in the rankings, while Dominik Dur placed third in 1:59.36.

Estonia's Triin Aljand won the women's 50 fly in 25.89, downing her meet record of 26.01 from 2010. That swim came up short of her national record of 25.44 from 2009, and came up short of her ninth-ranked season best of 25.81 from Zagreb. Lisa Zaiser placed second in 27.00, while Fabienne Nadarajah finished third in 27.20.

Mads Glaesner posted a 14:54.32 to break the meet record in the men's 1500 free. That swim bettered the 14:55.30 set by David Brandl back in 2009. Federico Colbertaldo took second in 14:55.64, while Christian Scherubl placed third in 14:57.91.

USA's Randall Bal claimed the men's 100 back crown in 52.02, moving him up to 16th in the world rankings. Pavel Sankovich took second in 53.35, while Iskender Bashlakov earned third in 54.07.

Erica Buratto snared the women's 100 free title in 54.80, while Laura Letrari took second in 55.39. Aljand turned in her second podium of the night with a third-place 55.44. Zaiser bounced back in the women's 200 IM with a 2:11.42 for the win. Birgit Koschischek took second in 2:12.69, while Cassandra Gimeno Grauwinkel placed third in 2:15.84.

Alzbeta Rehorkova won the women's 100 back in 1:01.30, while Uschi Halbreiner downed the Austrian record with a runner-up 1:01.35. That swim beat her 1:01.59 from prelims, which lowered the 1:01.72 set by Fabienne Nadarajah back in 2006. Margherita Panziera placed third in 1:01.62.

Peter Mankoc captured the men's 50 fly title in 24.19, while Martin Spitzer placed second in 24.34. Michal Ledl wound up third in 24.35. Arda Gurdal won the men's 100 free in 49.27, while David Brandl (50.10) and Dietmar Stockinger (50.27) rounded out the top three.

Tjasa Vozel clinched the women's 200 breast in 2:26.83, while Buse Gunaydin finished second in 2:27.65. Sandra Swierczewska picked up third in 2:28.53. Loris Facci cruised to victory in the men's 200 breast with a 2:13.53. Moises Daniel Loschi touched second in 2:15.45, while Johannes Dietrich placed third in 2:16.03.

Martina Caramignoli won the women's 800 free in 8:25.67, while Martina De Memme (8:32.15) and Giulia Gabrielleschi (8:39.11) completed the podium.
